EANCOM / EDIFACT

EANCOM is the leading international standard for the computerized interchange of data. EDIFACT is the basis for the EANCOM standard. Today the EANCOM standard is specialized for the implementation within supply chains. In its structures the GS1 related business standards are implemented.

What is EDIFACT?

Need for the international standard EDI emerged in the seventies with the beginning of the modern global business operations. Consequently, in the middle of the eighties, the general business language, that we know under the acronym UN / EDIFACT, has been accepted as the ISO standard.  

UN / EDIFACT (United Nations Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport) is the set of internationally agreed upon standards and guidelines for the electronic data interchange.

What is EANCOM?

EANCOM is the international standard – being implemented all over the world.

EANCOM are detailed instructions for the implementation of standard messages UN / EDIFACT.

Each service or product respectively has to be marked with the special standard number of the article EAN, each customer has to be identified with the appropriate location related EAN number. All marks/identifications have to be unique.

The implementation of the EANCOM standard has significantly facilitated the automatic data processing. Standard EANCOM related messages are simple and accurate, identification EAN numbers are uniform all over the world.
